Metal Revolt

A quick google search or walk around campus will reveal a new phenomenom, which is caried out in the body practice of "piercings". Since the simple ear or nose ring has become a part of the the feminine intelligible body, i would like to instead focus on more eccentric piercings, like multiple facial piercings, or ones that go above and beyond the scope of our cultural norms.

These "unatural" piercings seem to rebel against the strict cultural norms and instead support a countercultures norms which gives more care to creativity and independence and which throws the dominant cultures view of the ideal body back into its face. Through the body practice of extreme piercings, this counterculture is able to "rebel" and push back against the views and beliefs of the dominant culture.

The body practice of piercings is read across society as rebellious, non conformist, creative, and artistic just to name a few. But i think that the rhetoric of "extreme" body piercings argues that the popular assumptions of beauty are not the only ones. It openly reveals that some subcultures of our society have created, branched off from the cultural norms of beauty and instead created a new form of fashion, beauty, and expression through the use of piercings.
